Empowering Community Connections: Teaching Older Adults Tech Skills

Thursday, May 16 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Technology

Helping older adults acquire tech skills and establish a digital legacy is a rewarding experience. With so much technological change, we need an adaptive approach to ensure accurate information and inclusivity in our programs. This webinar will explore the practical strategies, library program ideas, and best practices for teaching technology to older adults in your community.

At the end of this one-hour webinar, participants will:
– Understanding Needs and Challenges: Identify the needs and challenges older adults face in learning technology. Develop strategies to boost confidence, integrating accessibility and independence.
– Tailoring Instructional Approaches: Apply teaching methods effectively and how to help older adults with patience, empathy, and respect while maintaining boundaries.
– Choosing Relevant Topics: Determine key technology topics and possible library programs for older adults that foster connection and community. Tackle privacy,
securing a digital footprint, fear of mistakes, and overwhelm in technological learning.

Presenter: Carlos Galeana is an experienced technology trainer. The Library Journal magazine has recognized his work in public libraries. He enjoys learning about emerging technology, accessibility, digital well-being, and visual media.

In addition, this session will be available to stream as a podcast.

The recording and handouts will be available on Niche Academy after the live event as well as our library of over 700 recorded sessions. To access Niche, go tohttps://my.nicheacademy.com/floridalibrarywebinars
