Empowering Community Connections: Teaching Teens Tech Skills

Wednesday, September 11 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Technology

Public libraries can provide a safe and inclusive space for teens to learn about technology and access digital resources. By addressing the misconception that teens are inherently tech-savvy, libraries can close the digital skills gap in their communities. Join us for this webinar as we delve into practical strategies, program ideas, and best practices to empower teens with essential tech skills.

Webinar Objectives:
By the end of this one-hour webinar, participants will:
– Understanding Needs and Challenges: Gain insights into teens’ specific needs and challenges in learning and accessing technology skills.
– Tailoring Instructional Approaches: Recognize that teens learn differently from adults and explore instructional techniques tailored to their preferences. Develop strategies to boost their confidence and encourage exploration through hanging out, messing around, and geeking out (HOMAGO).
– Choosing Relevant Topics: Identify key technology topics and program ideas relevant to teens. Highlight the importance of a digital footprint, understanding privacy, managing screen time, seeking employment opportunities, completing school work, and navigating social media.

Presenter: Carlos Galeana is an experienced technology trainer. The Library Journal magazine has recognized his work in public libraries. He enjoys learning about emerging technology, accessibility, digital well-being, and visual media.
