he trauma informed framework provides structure and strategies for people working in libraries who want to nourish their communities with more empathy and reduce systematic and organizational barriers to collections, spaces, programs, and services.
In this interactive and informative program, attendees will use the trauma informed framework to:
• Gain a better understanding of the types of trauma and how they manifest in survivors
• Determine what the best response is according to your library’s mission, vision, goals, and commitment to its community
• Learn tips and strategies for serving your community’s needs in a trauma-informed and/or trauma-responsive way
Presenter: Rebecca Tolley is the interim director of research and instruction services at East Tennessee State University’s Sherrod Library where she also coordinates the research consultation service. She speaks and publishes on topics such as organizational culture, customer service, and cultivating empathy in library workers. Her book A Trauma-Informed Approach to Library Services was published by ALA Editions 2020.
