Programming technology and information literacy classes and promoting an interest in lifelong learning are unique challenges in today’s public libraries. This class uses discussion and hands-on activities to explore effective strategies for creating, scheduling, teaching and assessing these important classes, which enable students to skillfully navigate the information universe.
After this class, you will be able to:
- Review and evaluate your community’s training needs
- Identify educational partners in your community
- Derive relevant class topics
- Begin to plan classes
- Plan and schedule programs of classes in your library and beyond
- Continually assess and improve class offerings
Biography ~ Russell Palmer
Russell Palmer is the Supervisor of Professional Development at LYRASIS. He writes, teaches, and speaks on a wide range of topics, including resource sharing, reference and information services, collection development and information literacy. Russell previously worked as Instruction and Outreach Coordinator at Mercer University. Russell has been invited to speak at state, regional, national, and international conferences, including LOEX, LOEX of the West, and the Reference Renaissance. He earned his MLIS at Florida State University, and his AB in English at the University of Georgia.
