Though scripted programming has been the norm for libraries, recent successes within the Orange County Library System show that allowing teens to create their own program content or become the content of a program has resulted in more favorable events, and higher participation. Programs to be discussed are the Nerdfighter Club, inspired by author John Green’s online collective; and the Film Club, in which teens use video cameras to film around the library. In addition, other programs including large- and small-scale events, both using both active and passive strategies, will be discussed. These programs engage teens and build on their performance experience and confidence.
