Arduino and similar tools are this century’s heathkits; they provide an accessible and fun way to create electronic gadgetry and allow anyone to do stuff that required a four year electrical engineering degree ten years ago. That said, there is still a learning curve to getting into making with Arduino. This webinar’s goal is to launch you into the world of Arduino; we’ll focus on practical steps that you can use right away to create and program a gadget with Arduino microcontrollers and shields. During this webinar, we will explore beginning projects – those with access to Arduinos are encouraged to have them with them.
Biography ~ Dr. Tom Lauwers
Dr. Tom Lauwers the founder of BirdBrain Technologies, maker of the Finch Robot and Hummingbird Robotics Kit. The Finch is a small robot designed to promote an engaging introduction to the art of programming. Hummingbird is a kit of parts that allows students to create and program robots built from kit components and craft materials. Together these products are in use in more than one thousand classrooms and libraries. Finch and Hummingbird are the result of separate NSF-sponsored research programs at the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute’s CREATE lab. Tom received his Ph.D for developing the hardware behind Finch and Hummingbird while at the CREATE lab. Tom lives in Pittsburgh with his wife, two kids, and a small army of robots.
