Join us and learn about Ask a Librarian, Florida’s virtual reference service, in this 3-part introductory training series offered wholly online. Librarians who will be a part of the service should attend the full series in preparation for staffing the live Ask a Librarian desk. This online series is for librarians with no previous Ask a Librarian training.
There are 3 components to the series: an on-demand component to be viewed prior to the first webinar, and two live webinars on chat, texting, and virtual reference resource and software navigation.
Attendance to both webinars is mandatory.
- Understand how to use the Ask a Librarian software and navigate through available resources.
- Be able to provide virtual reference assistance to patrons through chat and text messaging.
- Be able to identify customer service standards in a virtual reference setting.
- Understand the collaborative nature of the service and the role Ask a Librarian plays in local libraries across Florida.
These objectives are met by incorporating hands-on training with demonstrations and discussion on software and resources.
Registrations for this class must be received by noon Thursday, January 17th, so that registrants can receive the pre-class on-demand viewing component and supplemental materials.
Part 2 will be on Wednesday January 30th @ 10:00 – 11:30 AM ET
