Online Privacy: How to Explain and Inform Users

The news is filled with stories about privacy breaches and scandals, and yet you may find library users obliviously sharing their personal information out loud as they use library computers. How do you let users know what their privacy rights are and how they can protect their information? We’ll look at privacy principles, privacy protection tools and ways to teach adults, teens, and children about what to share and what to keep private.

Biography ~ Kira Smith
Kira Smith is a virtual reference provider for Florida’s Ask A Librarian Service. She has Master’s Degrees in Library Science and Education. Kira is a former elementary school teacher and childbirth educator. She has lived in New York, Louisiana, Texas and Florida. She enjoys teaching, technology and travel.
