Responsive web design, the ability to craft a web site that adapts into the resolution of the device it is being displayed on, is changing the game for web developers. In this session, we’ll look at how responsive design principles can be applied to your web
development and enable you to build a single web site that adapts to work on the desktop, tablet, and smartphone environments.

Specifically, we will:

  • Define responsive web design and the major underpinnings of this design method, notably CSS media queries
  • Show you toolsets and resources that will help you get started with responsive web design
  • Walkthrough a specific responsive design example and give you the CSS and HTML code to practice on your own

About the Instructor:

He writes and presents on a broad range of topics including mobile design & development, web services & mashups, metadata & digitization, Javascript, interface design, and application development. Before coming to MSU in 2005, Jason became interested in the intersection between libraries and technology while working as a web developer for the Division of Information Technology at the University of Wisconsin. After two years, he moved on to the web services department at
Williams College Libraries. When he doesn’t have metadata on the brain, Jason likes to hike the mountains of Montana with his wife, Jennifer, their daughter, Piper, and their dog, Oakley.
