Writing a strategic plan can seem like a daunting and boring project. But it doesn’t have to be. There are many innovative ways to develop a workable strategic plan that can be interesting, involve staff and other stakeholders, and may even be fun! Anne Marie Casey will offer practical advice on interesting planning techniques, such as scenarios and appreciative inquiry. She will illustrate the talk with examples in the library world.

This presentation will cover:

• The basics components of a strategic plan
• Ways to involve stakeholders, including staff, in the planning process
• Some different (and interesting) planning techniques

Anne Marie Casey ~ Biography

Anne Marie Casey is the Dean of Student Support at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). Prior to this she was the Director of the Hunt Library at ERAU and worked at the libraries of Central Michigan University, National University in San Diego, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and the Springfield (MA) City Library. She received a Ph.D. in Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions from Simmons College in 2011, an AMLS from the University of Michigan in 1981, an MA in Medieval Studies from the Catholic University of America in 1979, and a BA in Classics from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1977. Anne Marie has led several successful strategic planning processes in libraries as well as chairing the groups working on the most recent NEFLIN and FLA strategic plans.
