The Innovation Lab is a new Florida Library Association collaborative effort showcasing innovative and highly successful library policies, activities, and initiatives in Florida. It was created to encourage collaboration and discussion amongst its member libraries and librarians. It provides participants with the opportunity to impart their knowledge and offers a space for preserving and highlighting best practices in the field.
In this webinar, attendees will learn about the Innovation Lab, including what types of materials are accepted, the submission process, and the benefits and opportunities for sharing and participating. Attendees will also hear about what past participants have learned, what they have shared, and why they have benefitted from being involved in the Innovation Lab.

Alyse McKeal – Biography
Alyse McKeal is a Librarian and Professor 1 at Palm Beach State College on the Lake Worth Campus where she coordinates the college’s electronic resources, teaches information literacy, provides reference services, leads the library’s social media, and much more! Prior to this, she worked as the Social Sciences Librarian at the Florida Atlantic Universty Library in Boca Raton.
Alyse has worked as a full-time academic librarian for eleven years. In addition, she has served on the FLA’s Continuing Education (CE) Committee for the last 3 years, and is now the Vice-Chair of the CE Committee. In addition, Alyse has her Masters degree in Social Work and is a trained, clinical social worker.
Matt Selby – Biography
Matt Selby is an Assistant Branch Manager with Palm Beach County Library System. He received his MLIS from Florida State University in 2014 and completed a Library Leadership and Management Certificate. He has 10 years of library experience working in various roles in Circulation, Children’s, Serials and most recently the Research/Reference department.
Heather Sostrom – Biography
Heather Sostrom is the Branch Manager for the Anastasia Island Branch Library. She earned a BA from the University of Florida and her MLIS from FSU. Prior to joining the St. Johns County Public Library System, she worked as the Continuing Education Coordinator for the Northeast Florida Library Information Network (NEFLIN), and previously as a Librarian in Sacramento and Jacksonville, and an Educational Media Specialist in Gainesville. She also managed Alachua County Public Library’s Cone Park Branch in Gainesville for several years.
