Are you interested in enhancing your Summer Reading Program offerings to include a regional flavor – something with local/regional appeal? How about READiscover [Florida/Your State or City Here]?
Presenter Kathy Barco developed a statewide summer reading program called “READiscover New Mexico” several years ago when she was Youth Services Coordinator at the New Mexico State Library. In this webinar we’ll talk about how the 2016 CLSP themes could be given a slight modification to feature activities tailored to The Sunshine State (or another state or even a specific town, city, or region).
Using her program as a model, Kathy will demonstrate how you can adapt several activities (license plate literacy, song parodies, maps, booklists, recipe math, riddles, crafts, trivia and more) to your state for summer-spanning fun for kids, teens and families. Information on state-specific royalty-free clipart will also be featured. Spotlight the unique characteristics (history, languages, celebrations, food, state monuments, Official State Flower/Bird/Fossil, etc.) of your state and promote literacy at the same time.
