Introduction to Collection Development

Tuesday, March 18 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am EDT

Collection Development

Libraries have a responsibility to our communities to curate collections that are responsive to their needs. As the information pipeline continues to flow online, it’s even more important to select reputable resources and to weed out the ones that are no longer relevant. Providing books, ebooks, and audiovisual material for entertainment creates significant value for ravenous readers, viewers, and listeners as well. No matter what level or position you work in, you should understand the concepts behind this fundamental philosophy.

Participants will:
• Explore the mission and values that drive collection development
• Learn about collection development policies and how they inform libraries’ processes
• Learn the basics of collection development functions and key strategies

Presenter: Cari Dubiel is the Assistant Director at Twinsburg Public Library in Ohio. She has extensive experience in collection development, acquisitions, and technical services. Cari currently selects the library’s fiction collection and works directly with local and independent authors.

The recording and handouts will be available on Niche Academy after the live event as well as our library of over 700 recorded sessions. To access Niche, go to: https://my.nicheacademy.com/floridalibrarywebinars
