In a time of “deep fakes”, hallucinating chatbots and alarm that AI will take our jobs, how do librarians address the challenge and opportunities of AI tools? Mary Ellen Bates will discuss some of the techniques librarians can use to leverage the “intelligence” of AI while avoiding the pitfalls of relying on an algorithm to reason.

Presenter: Mary Ellen Bates is the principal of Bates Information Services, providing business research and analysis to business professionals, and consulting services to the information industry. Prior to starting her business in 1991, she worked for over a decade in special libraries. She received her MLIS from the University of California Berkeley. She, her dogs and her bees live near Boulder, Colorado. For more information on Mary Ellen, see www.batesinfo.com.
