Mentoring as Part of Succession Planning

Mentoring is a vital component of succession planning. Working to create a pool of potential successors can be accomplished though developing relationships with leaders and experts within your organization, and providing growth opportunities for mentees.

The specific learning objectives of this session are:
• Identifying the need for leadership development in the/your organization
• Steps to creating a succession planning program
• Creating a framework for mentoring within the succession planning program

Presenter: Ann Marie Barrett was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has worked in the library world for 16 years and has been a manager for the Salt Lake County Library System for the last 5 years. She enjoys collecting hobbies such as, knitting, spinning yarn, and loves curling up with a good book.

Presenter: Maggie Mills has been a branch manager for Salt Lake County Library for 20 years. Prior to that she has worked in leadership roles in public and special libraries in several states. Leadership development and mentoring have been a special interest of hers throughout her career.
