Many people have more than one career across their work lives, with librarianship being a popular second career choice. Entering a new profession, particularly at the mid-career point, can be a daunting task. This session will be led by an academic librarian who did just that, providing tips on identifying career paths, seeking out opportunities to grow leadership skills, becoming involved in professional organizations and networking, and leveraging existing skills from past work experience. Attendees will also explore ways to maintain a work-life balance that is best for their needs.
Learning Objectives:
• Explore different library settings and type of positions
• Learn effective ways to network and get involved in professional organizations
• Find opportunities to learn and showcase your leadership skills
• Consider ways to leverage existing professional skills in the library field
• Develop an understanding of the skills to maintain an effective work-life balance
